Types of Over current
There are several types of overcurrent, including:
Normal overcurrent: occurs when the current in a circuit exceeds the normal current rating for that circuit.
Short-circuit overcurrent: occurs when a direct connection is made between the live conductor and the neutral or earth conductor, causing a large increase in current.
Ground-fault overcurrent: occurs when there is a difference in potential between the ground and neutral conductor, causing current to flow to ground.
Overload overcurrent: occurs when the current in a circuit exceeds the design capacity of the circuit or its components.
Thermal overcurrent: occurs when the heating effect of current causes the temperature of a component to rise above its safe limit.
Magnetic overcurrent: occurs when the magnetizing effect of current causes the flux density in an iron core to exceed its saturation limit.
